Garden Ghosts


Introduction

Step-by-step beginner friendly tutorial on how to make a garden ghost spirit with velvet yarn. You can also make a larger plushie with blanket yarn. This pattern is NO SEW, except adding the flower to the head.

This pattern is written in US terminology for continuous rounds.

Materials

  • Velvet yarn (size 4)
  • Crochet hook (3.5mm)
  • Yarn needle
  • Plushie stuffing
  • Safety eyes (4mm or 8mm)
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers
  • (optional) Pastels or makeup

 

Abbreviations

  • MR - Magic Ring
  • CH - Chain
  • SC - Single Crochet
  • HDC - Half Double Crochet
  • DC - Double Crochet
  • TR - Treble Crochet
  • INC - Increase
  • DEC - Decrease
  • ST - Stitch
  • SL ST - Slip Stitch

 

Directions

Head + Body

  • R1: 8sc in mr (8)
  • R2: inc in every st (16)
  • R3: [sc, inc] x8 (24)
  • R4-9 (5 rounds): sc all around (24)
  • R10: 6sc, BO, 10sc, BO, 6sc (24)
  • R11-12: sc all around (24)
  • R13 (FLO): [2hdc, sl st] x12 (36)
  • Add stuffing and safety eyes between R8-9, about 5 stitches apart
  • R14 (BLO of R12): sc all around (24)
  • R15: dec x12 (12)
  • R16: dec x6 (6)
  • SL ST and weave through front loops to sew close

 

Flower

  • Start with a magic ring
  • [ch3, 3tr, ch3, sl st into the mr] x5
  • close ring and tie the ends

 

Sprout

  • pull a slip knot through the top of the head
  • chain 9, turn
  • start 2nd chain from hook: sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st
  • chain 6, turn
  • start 2nd chain from hook: sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st
  • sl st in the last two chains and into the stitch on top of the head
  • FO and hide the ends

 

Assembly

  • Sew the flower onto the top of the head
  • (Optional) add blush by cruching on pastels or makeup
