Materials

  • Velvet yarn (size 4)
  • Crochet hook (3.5mm)
  • Yarn needle
  • Plushie stuffing
  • Safety eyes (8mm oval)
  • Felt & glue (for nose)
  • Scissors
  • (optional) stitch markers
  • (optional) makeup blush

 

Abbreviations

  • MR - Magic ring
  • CH - Chain
  • SC - Single crochet
  • HDC - Half double crochet
  • INC - Increase
  • DEC - Decrease
  • ST - Stitch
  • SL ST - Slip stitch

 

Directions

Head

With white yarn:

  • R1: 6sc in magic ring (6)
  • R2: inc in every st (12)
  • R3: [sc, inc] x6 (18)
  • R4: [2sc, inc] x6 (24)
  • R5-7(3 rounds): sc in every st (24)
  • R8: [3sc, inc] x6 (30)
  • R9: [4sc, inc] x6 (36)
  • R10: sc all around (36)
  • R11: [4sc, dec] x6 (30)
  • R12: [3c, dec] x6 (24)
  • add stuffing and safety eyes between R8-9
  • R13: dec x12 (12)
  • R14: dec x6 (6)
  • slip stitch, leave tail to sew

 

Ears x2

With black yarn:

  • R1: 6sc in magic ring
  • R2: inc in every st (12)
  • R3-4 (2 rounds): sc in every st (12)
  • R5: (2sc, dec) x3 (9)
  • R6-7 (2 rounds): sc in every st (9)
  • R9: (sc, dec) x3 (6)
  • SL ST and leave yarn tail to sew

 

Hat

Start with red yarn:

  • R1: 3sc in magic ring (3)
  • R2: inc in every st (6)
  • R3: [sc, inc] x3 (9)
  • R4: sc in every st (9)
  • R5: [2sc, inc] x3 (12)
  • R6-7: sc in every st (12)
  • (white) R8-9: hdc every st (12)

 

Ball

  • R1: 6sc in magic ring (6)
  • R2: sc in every st (6)
  • SL and FO, sew closed

 

Snout

  • Slip knot, ch4
  • Start in 2nd chain from hook: inc, sc, inc,
  • Flip to the other side: inc, sc, inc
  • SL ST and leave tail to sew

 

Assembly

  • Sew the ears at R3, on opposite sides of the head
  • Sew the hat on top of the head (using R6 of the hat and R3 of the head)
  • Sew on an oval nose or glue on felt nose
  • Weave yarn through the top of the hat and tie ends to make a loop
  • (Optional) add blush to the cheeks
